After granting Russula final acceptance for two water boxes installed in Line A of the wire rod mill, Isdemir Plant of OYAK Mining and Metallurgy placed an order to substitute the other two in Line B.
The objective of replacing the existing water boxes of the two-line wire rod mill is to improve the temperature homogeneity along the bar, and thus improve its metallurgical properties. Russula supplied the new water boxes, mechanical engineering, installation advisement, commissioning support and spare parts. Existing valve arrangements and field instrumentation were reutilized.
During an annual maintenance shutdown in June 2020, Erdemir Engineering, a subsidiary of Ereğli Demir ve Çelik Fabrikaları A.Ş. under Oyak Mining and Metallurgy, performed the auxiliary installation works, including piping and channel construction modifications to reduce the final installation time. The existing water boxes operated until the two-day mechanical installation shutdown in October. In 48 hours, the Isdemir and Russula teams worked around the clock to dismantle the existing water boxes and install the new ones.
This is the third project that İsdemir and Russula have collaborated together on in the past five years. The İsdemir plant is part of the OYAK Mining Metallurgy and is located in İskenderun, Turkey.
