In December 2012, ArcelorMittal replaced the DS 8 process control system, supplied by ASEA in the mid 1980’s with a ABB control system, AC800 PEC. Subsequently, ArcelorMittal contracted Russula to replace an existing data acquisition system with a fast IBA system at the Juiz de Fora in Brazil. The legacy system was developed through a parternership with a local university.
IBA has a wide range of data interfaces. In the case of ArcelorMittal Juiz de Fora plant, fiber optic cable was used to communicate at a 1 ms speed to the dedicated ABB AC800PEC. Moreover the TCP/IP VIP protocol was used for the normal 50 ms speed signals.
With the IBA software and IBA Analyzer PDA, the 50 ms data acquisition process speed was reduced and improved to 1 ms. In addition, the one week storage time increased to more than one year data history for more than 6,500 fast and normal signals.
