Russula provided new DC drives to power the Gerdau two strand wire rod mill finishing blocks, located at its long product mill in Santa Cruz, RJ, Brazil. Each of the blocks is driven by two 1800 kW motors. The existing drives were replaced and updated with 4800A DCS800 power converter modules. The power converter modules were mounted in sets of three cabinets located on the same site of the substituted modules.
Besides these modules, Russula supplied two remote I/Os, ABB S800 family mounted in the same cabinets with AF100 communication, which pick up signals for controlling the lubrication of the two blocks.
The drives were successfully put into operation in January 2013. Gerdau Cosigua plant noticed a marked improvement in the operation of the rolling mill process, which yielded an increase in production.
